Slow Cooker Easy: Sweet and Savory Cantonese Pork

This dish is quick, easy, and delicious!  Made up of pork steak, mushrooms, green peppers, and onion all smothered in a slightly sweet and tangy sauce, all piled on top of rice, the combination couldn't be better.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds pork steak
  • 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 medium sweet onion
  • 1/2 green pepper
  • 1/2 red pepper
  • 7 crimini mushrooms
  • 1 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sherry
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Steps:

Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

While the butter is heating, slice the pork steak into 1" slices.

When the butter is hot (but not burning,) put the sliced pork into the skillet in a single layer.  Make sure to leave space in between the slices, so that the pork can be turned over.  All of the pork won't fit into the pan at one time, so this process will have to be repeated 2-3 times.

Brown the pork on all sides, no need to cook it all the way through, the slow cooker will do that.

While the pork is browning, slice the mushrooms, green pepper, red pepper and onion, and add them to your slow cooker.

Add the tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sherry and salt to the slow cooker.

When the pork has browned on all sides, add it to the slow cooker.

Stir it up so that all of the sauce coats the meat and vegetable.

Set your slow cooker on low, and cook for 6 hours.

Before eating, make a pot of rice.

Serve your delicious slow cooked meal over rice.

Simple, delicious, and satisfying!
