Game Day: Gourmet Mozzarella Stuffed Lettuce Burgers

Looks don't give this beauty justice.  It may look like just another cheese stuffed burger, but trust me, it is so much more than that!  It is a wonderful blend of tastes to surprise and delight you.  Imagine a seasoned burger, stuffed with fresh mozzarella, and topped with balsamic ketchup, purple heirloom tomato slices, and wrapped up in sweet romaine lettuce.  Pair this meal with some perfectly golden brown onion petals, and you've got a great game day meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella
  • worcestershire sauce
  • liquid smoke
  • sea salt
  • heirloom tomatoes
  • balsamic ketchup
  • romaine lettuce.

Steps:

The ground beef that I bought was already formed into 1/4 + 2 tablespoon sized patties, so  I cut them in half (one for the bottom, and one for the the top, cheese goes in the middle.)

Form the patties into the shape that is desired.  I made football shaped patties, to celebrate the victories of both the Broncos (Chef Meg's team) and the Cowboys (Chef Matt's team.)

Thinly slice the fresh mozzarella, and place the cheese slices in the center of one of the patties.

Place the other patty on the top and completely seal the edges with your fingers.

Sprinkle each side of the burger with a pinch of sea salt, a sprinkle of worcestershire sauce, and a sprinkle of liquid smoke.

Cook the burgers either on the stove or on the grill until well done.

Dress your burger up with lettuce, tomato slices, ketchup, and whatever else you desire.

Pair your burger with some crispy onion petals.  Sink your teeth in and enjoy!
